The LinkedIn profile is in a sense a landing page that you can use to position yourself within the search results on LinkedIn and Google to increase your visibility.
If you want to find out how to improve your LinkedIn profile and be found, continue reading below, where I have summarized the valuable tips that you can find in the book " The Linkedin Algorithm" by Gaetano Romeo.
Summary
Profile URL
The profile URL, as in SEO, contributes to its indexing. You should know that LinkedIn is one of the 5 websites that Google indexes regularly (with Youtube, Wikipedia, Facebook and Twitter) and switching from the standard parametric URL to a custom URL helps the visibility of your profile.
You can insert your name-surname or name-surname-whatyoudo in the custom URL by clicking on "Edit public profile and URL" at the top right:
Profile photo
Choose a clear image, preferably with a neutral background, that makes you appear professional, but empathetic.
Dress and look like the company you want to work for or the contacts you want to reach. Good if you can show yourself "in action".
Headline (title under the name)
The job title should not be the job description , but it should summarize your specialty well, your value proposition on LinkedIn. It is a first element to distinguish yourself "from the competition"
Summary (called "about" when you edit your profile)
The space that summarizes who you are. It should be 3-5 paragraphs, preferably with a central bullet point that guides the understanding of your work passions, key skills and what you can do.
In general, your LinkedIn profile is not a CV , it is a page where you highlight your best achievements and tell what you have done and what you can do.
SEO
Here are some tips to increase the visibility of your profile by doing SEO on LinkedIn (the premise is that you have already done a study of the keywords for which you want to position yourself):
Create a keyword-rich profile , in your title and content. Start by including the keyword you can be searched for in your job title.
The same keyword must be repeated throughout the profile , including variations, even in the experience section.
Try to get links to your profile on the web (e.g. if you write guest posts, from websites, etc.)
Rename your profile photo before uploading using your name + job description.
Use Pulse articles to express your insights/viewpoints as an alternative or in addition to the company blog (by writing a synopsis on Pulse that links to the post). Do not duplicate content, however.
There are also other ranking factors for the visibility of a profile:
Organically increase your connections
Get as many specializations as possible (preferably certified by LinkedIn quizzes)
Get Reports
Add honors, awards and publications
Get validation for your skills
What about you? Have you already applied all these optimizations to your profile? Do you have any others to report that are not present in the article? Write it in the comments!
